| Quote: | I know there are Smallville fans out there who are hoping that since Smallville is shot up in Vancouver, B.C., that the WGA writers' strike won't affect production on the show. Unfortunately, it does. Smallville's writers are Hollywood-based and have therefore gone on strike with everyone else this week. From what I've gathered, there's been no official word on how many scripts the Smallville writers had finished prior to Monday, but it looks like Smallville will be able to get through mid-season. Unlike some shows (like The Office and Battlestar Galactica) production on Smallville won't stop just because the writers are on strike. The actors will film the remaining episodes. The producers have also stated that they, knowing that a strike was likely, ended the final finished script on a cliff-hanger, so the last aired episode (which should be in mid-February or so) can act as a season finale if need be. Your Take

You have to like Smallville's respect for its fans in this instance. Even though the writers are acting in solidarity, it doesn't hurt to slightly alter the last finished script to make it more digestible to fans. There were rumors this week that Tim Kring, Heroes showrunner, refused to alter the last Heroes script to make it a tidier ending if it happens to be the last episode of the season. While I also understand that point of view, I think it's unnecessary to penalize the fans like that.
So, there you have it, Smallville fans. You're probably looking at five or six more new episodes before the well runs dry in February. |
